What is Medicare Part G?
September 12, 2024Can I Switch from Medicare Part B to Medicare Advantage?
September 15, 2024Urgent Medicare Update: What to Do if Your Plan Won’t Renew in 2025
Hi there! I’m Bill Green, owner of Green Insurance Agency. Since 2014, we’ve helped thousands of people just like you navigate Medicare. But here’s the thing: some Medicare Advantage plans in Northeast Florida and across the country won’t be renewing for 2025. If your plan is one of them, it’s important to know what steps to take next.
How Will You Know if Your Plan Isn’t Renewing?
By September 15th, you should receive your Medicare Annual Notice of Change. This letter will tell you if your plan is ending. If you find out that your plan won’t be available next year, don’t panic! But don’t ignore it either—there are important steps you need to take to ensure you’re covered.
Why Ignoring the ANOC Letter Could Cost You
If you miss or ignore this letter, you’ll automatically be enrolled in a Part D prescription drug plan. The problem? This plan might not cover your medications well, and you could end up paying more. Plus, you’ll revert to Original Medicare, which means you’re on the hook for 20% of all medical bills with no cap on costs. Even if you’re in good health, this could lead to major expenses if something unexpected happens.
Your Options: Medicare Supplement or Medicare Advantage
If you get that letter and want to take action, you have two main choices:
- Medicare Supplement (Medigap) Plan: Think of this as your “get out of jail free” card. If your Medicare Advantage plan is ending, you can switch to a Medigap plan without answering any health questions. This is a rare opportunity to get into a Plan F, G, or N—especially if you’ve been turned down before. Medigap plans offer you the freedom to see any doctor who accepts Medicare, anywhere in the country, anytime. Yes, you’ll pay a monthly premium, but you’re paying for peace of mind and the ability to choose your providers.
- Important Note: I’ve had clients come to me after working with other agents who didn’t know how to handle this situation correctly. They missed out on their chance to get the right coverage because their first agent didn’t understand the system. Make sure you’re working with someone who knows the ins and outs of Medicare supplements—you don’t want to be left unprotected.
- Medicare Advantage Plan: This might be what you currently have. Many of these plans in our area have zero premiums, meaning you don’t pay anything extra beyond what Social Security already takes out for Medicare. You’ll have copays for services like doctor visits, hospital stays, and more. These plans often come with extra benefits like dental, vision, hearing, gym memberships, and more.
Act Now: Don’t Wait Until It’s Too Late
This year, more plans than ever before are leaving the area, making it vital to shop around and secure the right coverage. At Green Insurance Agency, we’re here to help you compare all your options, not just from one or two companies, but from many. Our goal is to find the perfect plan for your needs.
